(KIWA Staff Photo)Primghar, Iowa — A Sanborn woman has been arrested on a felony contraband charge after jail officials say she had a controlled substance in the O’Brien County Jail.
A criminal complaint filed by the O’Brien County Sheriff’s Office in district court accuses 46-year-old Bonnie Eady of Sanborn of the crime.
In his statement, the deputy says that Eady arrived at the jail to serve time. A jail officer took her to the booking room, where she is said to have exhibited strange body behavior and mannerisms. During a pat search, the jail officer located a vape pen taped to the back of her neck. According to the deputy, Eady later told them she intended to use the vape while she was serving time in jail. A field test indicated the vape pen contained THC (marijuana).
Eady was charged with introducing intoxicants or drugs into an institution, a class D felony. If convicted, she could face up to five years in prison. She also faces a misdemeanor charge of possession of a controlled substance – marijuana.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Friday in O’Brien County District Court.
Eady was released the next day after posting bond.
