(KIWA Staff Photo)Lincoln, Nebraska (RI) — Dry conditions remain in northwest Iowa, but they have continued to shrink in the September rains.
The area of moderate drought has gone from almost seven percent down to around two percent in the latest US Drought Monitor report. The majority of the moderate drought is in Woodbury and Monona counties, with very small amounts in nearby Harrison and Plymouth counties. The amount of abnormally dry area is down to 12-point-four percent, compared to more than 49 percent at the start of the calendar year. Nearly 88 percent of the state now has NO dry conditions, which is up by nearly two percent from last week.
In our area, there was no change from last week, with no drought conditions reported, but abnormally dry areas were reported in extreme northern Osceola County as well as most of northern and western Lyon County, and about the western half of Sioux County. Other parts of the four-county area, including all of O’Brien County, are now reporting normal conditions.
