(KIWA Staff Photo)Hull, Iowa (KTIV) — Several hundred customers in Hull lost electricity after severe storms moved through northwest Iowa late Tuesday night.
A severe thunderstorm warning was issued for the Hull area at 9:24 p.m. on September 1st, with 70-mph winds and 1.25-inch hail reported. A tornado warning followed at 10:04 p.m. due to radar-indicated rotation.
MidAmerican Energy says 761 customers initially lost power after two utility poles were broken during the storms. Line and tree crews worked overnight to repair damage, and more than 300 customers had service restored during those early-morning efforts, according to MidAmerican Media Relations Manager Geoff Greenwood.
Around 9:50 a.m. Wednesday, crews attempted to restore full service but discovered another downed power line caused by the storm. Because of that additional damage, the circuit failed to hold when power was re-energized, leaving the original 761 customers still without electricity.
By 11:24 a.m., crews completed repairs on the second downed line and restored power to the entire community.
The warnings issued Tuesday night included 70-mph winds, 1.25-inch hail, and radar-indicated rotation. Hull has a population of just under 2,400, according to the latest U.S. Census data.
