Sheldon City Council To Discuss Banking Services, Police Chief Position And More

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council will meet in regular session this Wednesday, August 7th at 4:30 PM in the council chambers at 416 9th Street — the Community Services Center — across the street south of KIWA Radio.

Set to approve all in one motion on their consent agenda are items such as the approval of a liquor license for Crossroads Pavilion, a temporary wine permit for Celebration Days, the mayor’s appointment of Lois Klein to the Library Board of Trustees, a resolution determining the necessity and fixing a date for a public hearing on the matter of the adoption of a proposed Sheldon Consolidated Urban Revitalization Plan for the proposed Sheldon Consolidated Revitalization Area, and the approval of a grant writing and administration services for the 2024 Flood Recovery Act to Simmering & Cory.

The council will continue to discuss and possibly make a decision on banking services.

They will also consider a resolution approving an agreement with Cayler Consulting to assist with the police chief vacancy. Plus, the 2024 legislative updates will be introduced.

The council may go into one or two closed sessions after the meeting — one in regard to the police chief vacancy including future conditions of employment, for example — how much the chief will be paid; and one for the annual city manager evaluation. Iowa code allows closed sessions to discuss employment conditions of employees not covered by a collective bargaining agreement and to discuss and evaluate the professional competency and performance of an employee, among many other reasons.
