Sheldon Council Accepts Resignation Of Krystan Haan As FT EMS Coordinator

Sheldon, Iowa — The Sheldon City Council met in regular session on Wednesday evening.

Among the topics of discussion was the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team and EMS as a whole in the area. SCAT Director, EMS Coordinator, and paramedic Krysten Haan gives us some stats for calendar year 2023.

Assistant SCAT Director and O’Brien County Emergency Management Director Jared Johnson spoke about SCAT’s organizational structure.

SCAT currently has about 25 members, but they tell us they’d like to have 35 to 40 members. The SCAT directors and the council discussed options to help SCAT while keeping budget issues in mind. They also discussed staffing issues in surrounding smaller towns, and what SCAT’s role will be in the future as it becomes more and more difficult to find volunteers.

The council did accept Krysten Haan’s resignation as full-time EMS coordinator, but she will remain as SCAT Director.

The City will also be doing a wage study for SCAT and other departments.

In other business, the council passed a resolution setting the dates of a consultation and a public hearing on a proposed Amendment No. 8 to the Amended and Restated Sheldon Urban Renewal Plan.

Also, during the reports section of the meeting, Interim Sheldon Economic Development Director Mark Brown gave a quick update on the hiring process for the three open SCDC positions.
