Sibley, Iowa — Several people joined Osceola County Sheriff’s Officials and Osceola County Jail staff on Saturday afternoon to get their first (and hopefully only) look at the inside of the new Osceola County Jail.

Sheriff Kevin Wollmuth says one of the best things about the new facility is its safety. He says for one thing, there are not stairs, as everything is on ground level. Previously, employees and inmates had to climb and descend stairs to get around the building. He also praised the tech of the new facility, which also has additional office space and storage. The original jail was built in 1907.

Voters approved a five-million-dollar general obligation bond issue in November of 2023 toward the replacement of the aging jail. Some funding came through the American Rescue Plan Act, too.
