(KIWA Staff Photo)Sioux Center and Hospers, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Housing projects in Sioux Center and Hospers have been awarded a combined $1.312 million in state Workforce Housing Tax Credits, supporting a total of 40 residential units.
The two Sioux County projects are among 69 statewide receiving awards through the Iowa Economic Development Authority’s fiscal year 2027 Workforce Housing Tax Credit program. Statewide, the awards total $39.84 million and are expected to help create 2,093 residential units across 39 counties.
Awards Support Housing in Two Sioux County Communities
In Sioux Center, Vision Builders Inc. received $1 million in tax credits for The Ledges, a 32-unit housing project.
In Hospers, the Hospers Area Development Corporation received $312,000 for Sunrise Apartments, an eight-unit project.
Several other northwest Iowa communities also received awards:
- Le Mars
- Vision Builders Inc. — $1 million for the 32-unit Floyd View project
- JG1 LLC — $459,600 for the 12-unit South Ridge Estates Duplex Community
- Dickinson County
- Vision Builders Inc. — $144,000 for the four-unit Lake Park Neighborhood Revitalization project
- Shores at Spirit Lake, LLC — $992,429 for The Shores II, a 29-unit project
- Sioux City
- Two projects received a combined $1,371,647 for 86 units
- Graettinger
- Graettinger Economic Development Council — $161,701 for a four-unit housing project
Together, those nine northwest Iowa projects account for more than $5.44 million in tax credits and 207 residential units.
State Received More Requests Than Available Funding
The authority received 117 applications requesting $72.6 million in tax credits. Of the $40 million available for fiscal year 2027, $22.6 million was reserved for projects in Iowa’s 88 least-populated counties.
Applications were evaluated on readiness, financing, community impact, developer experience, and innovation.
Debi Durham, director of the Iowa Economic Development Authority and Iowa Finance Authority, said housing availability plays a key role in community and workforce growth.
Statewide awards are expected to support 1,225 residential units in larger communities and 868 units in smaller towns. The Workforce Housing Tax Credit program supports projects that redevelop abandoned, vacant, or deteriorated properties.
