UPDATE: Burning Ban Issued In Sioux County

Sioux County Emergency Management tells us that a burn ban goes into effect on Tuesday morning (March 31st). Absolutely no burning is permitted. If you burn and you’re caught, you could be fined and charged criminally if the fire destroys property or results in loss of life.

It means no open burning is allowed, including burn barrels, brush piles, and recreational fires, as even small fires can quickly get out of control.

They tell us that dry vegetation combined with wind can turn a small spark into a fast-moving wildfire in seconds. They ask you to help protect lives, property, and our first responders.

You are advised to delay any burning until conditions improve, properly dispose of smoking materials, and avoid activities that could create sparks (such as grinding, welding, etc.)

Original post:

Northwest Iowa — The high temperatures, low humidity and wind are combining to create dangerous fire conditions in northwest Iowa.

Sioux County emergency management officials say that the county is experiencing very dry conditions combined with gusty winds, creating a high risk for rapid fire spread.

They tell us all outdoor burning is strongly discouraged.
This includes

  • Trash burning
  • Brush piles
  • Agricultural burning
  • Campfires
  • They tell us that even a small spark can quickly turn into a fast-moving, uncontrollable fire under these conditions, and they say local fire departments are already on high alert. EMA officials ask you to help them prevent unnecessary emergencies by postponing any planned burning, properly disposing of smoking materials, and avoiding activities that create sparks. They say let’s work together to keep Sioux County safe.
