Spirit Lake, Iowa (KUOO) — The Spirit Lake School Board voted unanimously in a special session Monday to place a $69.9 million bond issue on the November 3rd ballot.

A petition calling for the election required 150 signatures. District officials say it received 371, with 227 verified.

Superintendent Dr. David Smith says the petition turnout reflects strong interest in the facilities-improvement proposal.

Some opposition surfaced Monday. Christine Murphy asked the board to table the referendum, alleging multiple conflicts of interest.

School officials declined comment on the allegations.
