Sioux Falls, South Dakota (KMOM) — The suspect accused in the fatal shooting of Minnehaha County, South Dakota Sheriff’s Deputy Katherine Frank is now facing murder charges.
We’re told 39-year-old Brandon John Oetken has been charged with premeditated first-degree murder of a law enforcement officer and depraved-mind second-degree murder of a law enforcement officer.
Oetken was previously charged with three counts of attempted first-degree murder and three counts of aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer. Prosecutors have since added four additional aggravated assault charges.
The charges stem from an October 9th incident in Sioux Falls in which Minnehaha County Sheriff’s deputies responded to a mental health hold call.
Deputy Frank, who was 26 years old, was shot during the incident and died from her injuries on Monday. (October 12th.)
Prosecutors say the state may seek the death penalty in the case.
