(KIWA Staff Photo)Washta, Iowa (RI) — The small northwest Iowa community of Washta is preparing to host its 50th annual Grand Meadow Heritage Festival this weekend.
Event coordinator Bethany Grell says the celebration in the Cherokee County town highlights farm equipment of all kinds, including exceptionally rare antiques.
The festival will feature a heritage tractor show, live demonstrations, and an antique tractor pull. Grell says a special showcase will mark America’s 250th birthday — the Symbol of Freedom exhibit, a traveling display of the many versions of the American flag.
The 46-star flag represents Oklahoma’s admission to the Union in 1907 and was the nation’s official banner for only about four years.
The festival in Washta — population around 200 — is scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, September 12th and 13th. More details are available at the Grand Meadow Heritage website.
