Northwest Iowa — The days before the election are numbered. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3rd.
We had a chance to talk to Rhea Schmalen, the O’Brien County Auditor and commissioner of elections, recently. She tells us what to do if you make a mistake on your ballot.
She says any absentee ballots have to be in their office no later than 8:00 p.m. on Election Day (November 3rd).
Schmalen tells us there is a change this year regarding presenting your ID when you vote.
She says there is one small caveat.
If you need to register to vote, while it’s too late to register normally, Iowa does have Election Day registration at the polls, says Schmalen. But it will take a little longer than voting normally.
If you have any questions, you can call your county auditor’s office. Also, remember that in addition to their normal business hours, they will be there a little later on Friday (October 30th), until 5:00 p.m. And they’ll be open on Saturday, October 31st, from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. for absentee in-person voting.
