Inwood, Iowa — Some students from one northwest Iowa school are getting the opportunity to compete in a nationwide competition in Washington, DC this summer.
Alyssa Hoogestraat and Meg Lapka of the West Lyon Family, Career and Community Leaders of America, along with their teacher, Kristin Rockhill were able to join us recently for our Talk of the Town program.
Lapka tells us what FCCLA is all about.
She tells us more.
Hoogestraat tells us what the project entails.
They tell us the FCCLA Distracted Driving Project brought them top honors in the state of Iowa, qualifying them to compete in Washington D.C. this summer.
The West Lyon FCCLA project is part of FACTS, a national FCCLA peer education program through which students strive to save lives through personal, vehicle, and road safety. The West Lyon FCCLA group will travel to Washington from July 6th through 10th to present their project in competition at the FCCLA National Leadership Conference.
Hoogestraat and Lapka made their comments on the KIWA Talk of the Town Program, which can be heard on weekday mornings at 8:30 on KIWA-FM 105.3. We also post a podcast of every Talk of The Town Program, and you can find those by clicking here.
