Iowa (KUOO) — With most area schools starting next week, motorists are being reminded to use extra caution around school buses and in school zones.
Kevin Krull of the Iowa State Patrol says drivers need to be alert as bus routes resume.
Krull says the penalty for violating Iowa’s school-bus-stop-arm law is significant.
He adds that drivers also need to be cautious in school crossing zones, especially during morning arrival and afternoon dismissal.
Krull says drivers should not assume they can pass a stopped school bus without being caught. Nearly all buses are equipped with cameras that can identify violators.
