Herman E. Paulsen Sr., age 92, of Sheldon, Iowa and formerly of the Okoboji and Milford, Iowa area passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 at the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa.
There will be a Private Family Service on Thursday, February 13, 2014 with the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa. Burial will be in the East Lawn Cemetery in Sheldon, Iowa.

Herman Edward Paulsen Sr., the son of Ernest and Dena Christina (Meints) Paulsen was born on April 19, 1921 Sibley, Iowa, and received his education in a country school near Melvin. On October 30, 1946 he was united in marriage to Minnie DeKruif in Dakota City, Nebraska and the couple made their home in Sheldon, Iowa where he worked and raised his family. Herman worked for Sterrenberg Hardware in Sheldon for 13 years as a sales representative and service man. He furthered his education by attending Dale Carnegie School and Honda School. He also worked for the Sheldon School District as a custodian. He was employed by East Elementary School for 15 years where he furthered his education by attending school to repair furnaces. After retiring he moved to Spirit Lake, Iowa. Minnie preceded him in death on November 2, 1987. On December 3, 2012 Herman became a resident of the Prairie View Home in Sanborn, Iowa where he passed away on Monday, February 10, 2014 reaching the age of 92 years, 9 months and 22 days.
Herman was an active member of the Church of Christ in Sheldon, where he served as a Deacon. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, dancing, Bingo, playing his Accordion and listening to his Polka music. He had a talent for woodworking and made a lot of special gifts for his children and grandchildren.
He leaves to cherish his memory his five children, Janie and her husband, Randy Miller of Amarillo, Texas; Michael and his wife, Cheri Paulsen of Fulda, Minnesota; Karen and her husband, Ted Todd of Amarillo, Texas; Richard Paulsen of Kansa City, Missouri; Herman Jr. and his wife, Donna Paulsen of Sheldon, Iowa; as well as a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren who loved him. His siblings a sister, Margaret Schneider of Sheldon, Iowa; two brothers, Gus and Ernest Jr. Paulsen both of Sheldon, Iowa and also numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and many friends.
Herman is preceded in death by his wife, Minnie; an infant son, John; a son, Bernie; two grandchildren, his parents, two brothers, and a sister.
