Jenelda F. Nieuwendorp

Jenelda F. Nieuwendorp, age 84, of Sheldon, Iowa passed away on Thursday, February 27, 2014 at Sanford Senior Care in Sheldon, Iowa.

The funeral service will be 11:00 A.M. Monday, March 3, 2014 at the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa with Rev. Bruce Wilterdink ~ officiating. Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Matlock, Iowa.

Visitation with the family present will be from 2 – 4 P.M. Sunday, March 2, 2014 at the Vander Ploeg Funeral Home in Sheldon, Iowa

Jenelda Faith Nieuwendorp, the daughter of William and Nellie (Vos) Van’t Hul was born on April 16, 1929 in Hull, Iowa. On September 8, 1948, she was united in marriage to Leonard Nieuwendorp in Sheldon, Iowa. After their marriage the couple farmed in various areas including; Little Rock, Melvin, Matlock, George and finally in the Sheldon area, where they have made their home for the past 23 years just east of town. Along with helping Leonard with the farm and the farm business, Jenelda cooked at the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon for 30 years. Leonard preceded her in death on January 8, 2008.

She was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon and a past member of the Little Rock, Melvin and Matlock Reformed Churches. She taught Sunday School and Bible School for many years and sang in the Matlock Church Choir and various quartets. She also was a member of the Ladies Aid, Sheldon Library Book Club and the Red Hat Society. She was known as the “Angel Lady” as she would talk to churches about angels for many years. Jenelda and Leonard went on the mission trips to Cary, Mississippi. She loved church, and she loved people, she also enjoyed gardening, flowers, music and visiting with people.

Left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Judy Nieuwendorp of Sheldon and Jane Nieuwendorp of Eagle River, Wisconsin; a grandson, Jason Nieuwendorp; a sister, Diana Marra of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Van’t Hul of Sioux Center, Iowa; also numerous nieces nephews and other relatives and friends.

Jenelda was preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Niuwendorp; a son, Harold Leonard Nieuwendorp; her parents and five brothers, Donald, Harold, Elmer, Lloyd and Milton Van’t Hul.
