Juleen Hofland

Juleen HoflandJuleen Hofland, age 77 of Sanborn, IA, passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA on Wednesday, September 10, 2014.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 13th at 10:30 a.m. at the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn. Visitation will also be held at the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Friday evening. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery near Sanborn, IA.

The Sanborn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for 77 year-old Juleen Hofland of Sanborn.

Juleen Shirley (DeBoom) Hofland, the daughter of Tony and Fannie (Altena) DeBoom, was born on February 10, 1937 in Maurice, IA. She grew up in the Maurice, IA area and attended country school there. Juleen went on to attend Northwestern College where she earned a teaching degree. Following her school years, she served as a teacher in the Sanborn Christian School.

On June 18, 1958, Juleen was united in marriage to Henry Hofland at the Christian Reformed Church in Ireton, IA. To this union three children were born: Karen, Janelle and Jay. Following their marriage, the couple was engaged in farming in the Sanborn, IA area. Juleen left her teaching position to raise her family. In her later years, she served as tutor to some of the students at Sanborn Christian School. In 2000, Juleen and Henry moved to Sanborn, but both still had a connection to the family farm. Juleen passed away at the Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, IA on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at the age of 77.

Juleen was a member of the Cornerstone United Reformed Church in Sanborn. She was a faithful Wednesday morning Bible Study Group member. In her early years, Juleen played the organ for her church in Ireton. She always had a love of music whether playing the organ or piano. Her hobbies included: cake decorating, quilting, gardening, flowers and working puzzles. Her family and friends were often times the beneficiaries of her love of cooking. Sunday dinners with her children and grandchildren were very important to her.

She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters-in-law: Adelyn DeBoom, Verna Zevenbergen; and brother-in-law, Dwaine Muilenburg.

Juleen is survived by her husband, Henry, of 56 years; her children and their families: Karen (Kelvin) Oostra of Euless, TX, and their children: Kyle (Stephanie) of Rock Rapids, IA and Kaitlyn; Janelle (Howard) Rus and their children: Lincoln and Taylor all of Sioux Center, IA; and Jay (Carla) Hofland and their children: Allan of Salix, IA, Eric, and Alyssa of Sanborn, IA; three brothers: Conard DeBoom, Stan (Wilma) DeBoom and Norman (Sherry) DeBoom all of Sioux Center, IA; several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many friends.
