Sioux City, Iowa – A Spirit Lake native who runs track-and-field at Dordt University has earned Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Track-and-Field Athlete-of-the-Week honors as announced by the GPAC Wednesday, April 22nd.
Fran Travis is this week’s field athlete-of-the-week. Travis, a sophomore from Spirit Lake won two events and had three top-five finishes at the Red Raider Open. With over 30 athletes, all three events she hit the ‘A’ standard and she improved her rank in the hammer with is now 6th in NAIA and 2nd in GPAC. She also now ranks 2nd all-time at Dordt.
Travis also hit the ‘B’ standard and won the discus, where she is third in the NAIA, and placed fourth in the shot put where she just missed on hitting the ‘B’ standard.
