Sheldon, Iowa (Sioux County Radio) — Two Sheldon-area farmers have won more than $30,000 in free seed through Farmers Coop Society’s annual Seed Week promotion.
FCS announced Kent and John Nieuwendorp as the grand prize winners of its 2025-2026 promotion. The Nieuwendorps received $30,190.46 in DEKALB, Asgrow, and Alloy seed.
The promotion rewards customers who commit early to seed purchases for the upcoming growing season. Participants in the 2025 Seed Week who increased their seed orders for 2026 received additional discounts and were entered into prize drawings.
Eight other customers each received a $500 gift card:
- Paul Staab, Remsen
- Dave Dammon, Sanborn
- Doug Boer, Sioux Center
- Jim Watterson, Melvin
- Ron L. Hulshof, Orange City
- Steve Van Beek, Sheldon
- Wilmer and Kevin Wynia, Ireton
- Kevin Trei, George
FCS Senior Director of Agronomy Kris Norgaard thanked the winners, participating customers, and the cooperative’s seed suppliers. He says Seed Week continues to be a great opportunity for growers to lock in savings, secure the latest seed technology, and be rewarded for planning ahead.
Farmers Coop Society traces its history to 1907, when Farmers Mutual Incorporated Society was formed by area farmers. The cooperative adopted the Farmers Cooperative Society name in 1919 and later expanded through acquisitions, mergers, and new facilities.
FCS locations now include Boyden, Ireton, Little Rock, Melvin, Ritter, Sanborn, and Sioux Center in Iowa, along with Alcester, Union Grove, and Worthing in South Dakota. The cooperative provides agronomy, feed, and grain services and also operates the How-To Building Center and Member’s Cut in Sioux Center.
