The Great Plains Athletic Conference and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the volleyball players of the week for contests played September 4-10. Dordt’s Ema Altena, a Junior from Sioux Center, Iowa, has been named the Attacker-of-the-Week.
Altena averaged 5.88 kills per set with a .340 kill efficiency in a pair of 3-1 match wins over Morningside (no. 24) and Grand View (no. 12). Altena also recorded just over three digs per set in those two wins.
“Ema had an amazing week of attacking the ball against two ranked teams who are each strong blocking teams. She was able to produce a variety of swings to score at the net. Further, her complete game of serve receive passing, digging, serving, and blocking have given her many different areas of impacting us on the floor. She is having fun with each match and doing well with honoring the Lord in each opportunity she gets to play this game,” said Dordt College coach Chad Hanson.
Altena is averaging 4.44 kills per set this season with a .268 kill efficiency and she has a team high 20 service aces with 2.4 digs per set.
The Defenders are 13-2 this season and will face Northwestern (no. 14) on Tuesday, September 12 and Doane (no. 16) on Saturday, September 16 in their next two outings. Both of those matches are on the road with Dordt returning home to face Mount Marty on Tuesday, September 19.
