Sioux City, Iowa — Briar Cliff baseball’s Jacob Wesselmann has been named this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Pitcher-of-the-Week.
Wesselmann, a senior from Remsen, Iowa, broke BC’s career strikeout record in Thursday’s dominating performance against Presentation. Wesselmann tossed a one-run complete game, allowing just one hit while striking out 13 batters. Wesselmann retired the Saints in 1-2-3 fashion in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to close out the win. He is the new career strikeout leader with 224. He passes 1988 graduate Tim Schneider who rang up 215 batters in his time in a BC uniform.
Wesselmann and the Chargers face Dakota State Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. at Bishop Mueller Field. BC opens conference place this weekend with a four-game series with Morningside. The doubleheader on Saturday will be played at home at 12 and 2:30, while Sunday’s doubleheader will be at MercyOne Field.
