BHRV Downs Western Christian In Hull

Hull, Iowa — The 3A #4 Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks got the best of cross town rival 1A #10 Western Christian 34-13 in Hull Friday night.

BHRV got the scoring started late in the first quarter when the Nighthawks used a 12 play drive to move 77 yards down the field and capped it off with a Landyn Van Kekerix 5 yard touchdown run to make it 6-0 with 3:20 left in the opening quarter.

Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley used another long drive and moved down the field to finish off with a 1 yard plunge by Cade Fisher to make it 13-0 with 8:43 remaining in the half. On the ensuing possession, Landyn Van Kekerix grabbed a bobbled pass for the takeaway, and a couple plays later scampered 30 yards for the score to make it 20-0 with 6:18 left. Western put a drive together towards the end of the first half. Pushed back to their own 4 yard line, passes to Kyson Van Vugt, then Wyatt Gulker, and then a 36 yard reception by Ashtin Winterfeld gave Western Christian their first points of the game. Heading into the half it was 20-7 in favor of Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley.

BHRV got a take away early in the 2nd half, when Caleb Kats was able to grabbed a Ty Van Essen pass, and the Nighthawks used the short field to their advantage when Van Kekerix ran into the endzone from 13 yards out. Van Kekerix later scored on a 4 yard run with 1:50 left in the third.

Western capped off the scoring early in the 4th with Wyatt Gulker on the receiving end of a 10 yard touchdown pass.

With the win, BHRV improves to 2-0, and will visit Unity Christian next week. Western Christian falls to 0-2 on the season and hosts Spirit Lake next week.
