Boyden Hull Rock Valley vs Waukon Saturday in 2A Football Semifinals

Northwest Iowa — Boyden Hull Rock Valley and Waukon meet at 4:06 Saturday at the UNI Dome in the Class 2A State football semifinals. The defending Champion Nighthawks enter at 10-1 following a 28-20 quarterfinal home win over Kuemper Catholic. The Indians are also at 10-1 coming off a 34-13 road win at New Hampton last Friday.

Boyden Hull Rock Valley is led by quarterback JT Van’t Hul who’s passed for 1,684 yards on the year with 19 touchdowns against 8 interceptions. He’s also rushed for 1,022 yards and 20 touchdowns averaging 6.8 yards per carry. Elliot Van Kekerix is next with 597 yards followed by Isaac Munoz at 408. The leading receiver is Cade Moser with 41 receptions for 781 yards and 8 touchdowns. He’s averaging 19 yards per catch.

Waukon features a high powered balanced offense as well led by quarterback Abe Schwartz with 2044 passing yards and 21 touchdowns to go against 8 interceptions. The running game is led by Mitchell Snitker with 1,680 yards and 22 touchdowns. He’s also caught 19 balls for an additional 285 yards and 6 touchdowns.

On defense Waukon has picked off 19 passes and recovered 10 fumbles for 29 turnovers on the year. The Nighthawk defense has 13 interceptions to go with 21 fumble recoveries for a total of 34 turnovers by the defense.

Nighthawks Head Coach Cory Brandt calls Waukon a very complete team.

While there is a lot of hard work going on the Nighthawks have been able to stay in the moment and enjoy  the ride.

The keys to getting a return trip to the Dome for the 2A Championship Game look like this.

At first glance the thing that gets Waukon Head Coach Chad Beerman’s attention is the sheer number of players on the Nighthawk roster.

Beerman sees the keys or “success factors” for his team this way.
