West Lyon to go Against Van Meter in Battle of Unbeatens

Cedar Falls — Top ranked West Lyon squares off against third ranked Van Meter in the semis of Class 1A at 1:06 Saturday at the UNI Dome. Both teams are unbeaten with the Wildcats downing Western Christian 42-3 last Friday at home. Van Meter posted a 27-6 win at Denver. Both teams are 11-0 going into the semifinal round.

 Wildcat quarterback Jaden Snyder has passed for 1,282 yards on the season with 21 touchdowns against just 1 interception and averages 17.6 yards per completion. Snyder has also rushed for 579 yards and another 11 touchdowns. As an offense West Lyon has rushed for 2,877 yards and 46 touchdowns on the season.

Van Meter features running back Carson Rhodes who is on the verge of a 2000 yard rushing season amassing 1,939 yards and 22 touchdowns. At quarterback Blake Fryer has thrown for 1,420 yards for 22 touchdown and just 4 interceptions. He’s averaged 13.8 yards per completion.

As a group the Wildcats defense has 17 sacks on the season. They have forced 19 turnovers including 11 interceptions and 8 fumble recoveries. The Van Meter defense has 23 sacks on the season led by Chris Reames with 9 solos sacks and 2 assists. The interception total is at 15 with the fumble recoveries total 4.

Special teams highlights for the two squads include Wildcats  kick off man Jaden Snyder has 40 touchbacks on the season.

Kick off is scheduled for 1:06 Saturday at the UNI Dome. The 1A Championship game will be played Friday morning November 17th at 11:06.
