Cherokee Downs Orab Baseball Team in Sheldon Tuesday

Sheldon Iowa — Cherokee downed Sheldon 6-4 in non conference baseball in Sheldon Tuesday night.

Sheldon got on the board first in the bottom of the third inning as Brennan Chester singled to left and later scored on a single down the third base line by Alexis Rodriquez to give the Orabs an early 1-0 lead.

Cherokee took a 3-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning as Trey Benson, Nick Clark and Aiden Comstock drew consecutive walks. Drew Spooner singled to left to drive in a pair of runs with the third coming on a strike out and throw down to first that was beaten out by Kobe Grell.

The Braves scored three more in the top of the fifth to go up 6-1 as Levi Pagel walked and Trey Benson singled to center. Both scored on a two run single to left by Aiden Comstock. He would score later in the inning when Trevor Lundquist drew a bases loaded walk.

Sheldon answered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 6-3 as Cason Johannes singled to left and Tye Sudbeck drew a walk. They both scored on a line drive single to the gap in left center by TK Lang.

Sheldon scored the final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth as Johannes drew a walk and later scored on a ground ball through the left side of the infield by Alexis Rodriquez for his second rbi of the night.

Freshman Aiden Comstock went the first four innings for Cherokee to pick up the win. He gave up 3 runs on 8 hits while striking out 8. Levi Pagel gave up 1 run on 2 hits and struck out 5 over the final 3 innings.

Tye Sudbeck took the loss going an inning and two thirds in relief of TK Lang who went one and a third in relief of starter Brennan Chester. Chester pitched the first 2 innings throwing a pair of hit less, shutout innings while striking out 4.

Sheldon now 1-3 on the year will return to action on Wednesday night with a trip to Okoboji. Cherokee now 2-3 will return to action at home Wednesday night against Western Christian.
