Dordt Baseball Drops Doubleheader To Benedictine

Atchison, Kansas — The Benedictine Ravens used a five run first inning to get started and defeated Dordt in non-conference play Friday afternoon in Atchison, Kansas by a 14-3 score.

Benedictine outhit Dordt 20-8 in the game and took advantage of two Dordt errors.

Dordt to a run each in the third and fourth innings to make the score 7-2 before the Ravens answered with three each in the fourth and fifth innings. Both teams scored a run in the sixth inning.

Aaron Eshelman scored a run on fielder’s choice int eh third inning and John Emerson scored a run in the fourth inning on a Lucas Nelson single.

Nelson scored the final run for Dordt in the sixth when he Chase Edwards singled.

Nelson was 3-4 with a double and two singles and Edwards was 2-4 with a run batted in on two singles.

Logan Cline walked twice and stole a base.

Gyeonju Kim pitched three innings and took the loss with three strikeouts and two walks and he was charged with nine hits.

Dordt battled to a 2-1 loss in game two of its doubleheader with Benedictine on Friday afternoon in Atchison, Kansas, allowing a homerun in the bottom of the seventh with one out to end the game.

Both teams’ pitching controlled the game with just three hits for each team.

The Ravens scored a run in the first and kept Dordt scoreless until the fourth inning.

In the fourth Nick Hamilton singled but was forced out for the second out of the inning on a fielder’s choice. An error put runners at the corners and after a pitching change Austin Pullar scored from third on wild pitch and errant throw at the plate.

Dordt got Aaron Eshelman on with a single in the seventh with one out but couldn’t move him around.

Jordan Williams homered to end the game for Benedictine.

Isaac Vander Hart started the game and went five innings on the mound and allowed one hit and one run with three strikeouts and no walks.

Nick Yeager came on in relief and took the loss and struck out one with two hits allowed.

Nick Hamilton was 2-3 at the plate with two singles and Eshelman’s seventh inning single accounted for all three Dordt hits.

Dordt also had three walks and each team committed two errors.

Dordt is 0-4 while Benedictine improves to 4-0.

Dordt returns to play on February 19 and 20 in McPerson, Kansas
