Scores on five straight possessions helped Dordt to a 50-23 win over the Dakota Wesleyan Tigers in GPAC play on Saturday afternoon in Mitchell, South Dakota.
The Defenders allowed a 25 yard field goal on Dakota Wesleyan’s first possession and then proceeded to score 26 unanswered to close the first half for a 26-3 lead.
Dordt’s first scored came on a Brock Lamle five yard run to cap a 13 play, 91 yard drive. David Kacmarynski picked off a Wesleyan pass near midfield to get back possession for the Defenders and Markie Brandt was on the receiving end of an 11 yard Lamle pass for a 12-0 lead after the two-point conversion failed.
Another Wesleyan turnover gave Dordt the football at the Tiger 31 as Tyson Dahlgrin recovered a fumble forced by Jordan Weiland. Charley Young finished the drive with a two yard run with 5:59 left in the half and Dordt was up 19-3.
Casey Byker forced Dordt’s third takeaway with an interception and returned it to the Wesleyan 28 and Keithen Drury had six carries on the ensuing eight-play drive and plunged into the end zone with 15 seconds left in the half. Dordt took a 26-3 lead into the half.
Dordt made it five straight scores with a second half opening drive of 75 yards as Lamle completed a pass to Matthew Oh-Slack for 63 yards and a 33-3 lead.
Wesleyan had a kick return and Dordt a field goal to get the score to 36-10. Wesleyan got as close as 36-16 with a 17 yard drive set up by a fumble.
Levi Jungling got into the scoring act with a 49 yard reception from Lamle with 4:22 left in the game but Wesleyan answered with 51 yard touchdown reception off a twice deflected pass. Dordt’s Tyler Reynolds engineered a seven-play, 46 yard drive and capped it with a 12 yard run for the 50-23 final.
