The Dordt Defender volleyball team lost a 3-1 decision to Columbia (Missouri) in the quarterfinal round of the NAIA National Volleyball Championship in Sioux City, Iowa.
The loss ended the Dordt College season while Columbia advances to the semifinals with the win.
Dordt had a .414 kill efficiency in set one and controlled the set, taking the lead for good at 7-6 with a Julia Lindbergh kill. Dordt’s lead varied between two and three points before back to back kills by Ally Krommendyk for a 20-16 lead and Dordt went on to win 25-20.
Set two was equally tight with the Defenders getting back to back points to pull away from a 16-16 tie to lead 18-16 after another Krommendyk kill. Four straight points by Columbia gave it the cushion it needed. Dordt did get within 20-19 with a Krommendyk and Jamie De Jager block but the Cougars built a 23-20 lead and won 25-22.
A 10-4 start put the Cougars up and it was more than enough to give them a 25-13 win and set four was very similar with an 18-8 start leading to a 25-13 win to finish the set.
Dordt was limited to 16 kills and had 11 errors in sets three and four while the Cougars closed with 28 kills and just six errors.
