Dordt Men’s Basketball Has Pair Recognized

Two Dordt College men’s basketball players have earned post-season honors from the Great Plains Athletic Conference in voting done by the coaches at the conclusion of the regular season.

Marcus Winterfeld (Sophomore; Sioux Center, Iowa) earned second-team honors while Chandler Brunsting (Sophomore; Hull, Iowa) earned honorable mention accolades.

Winterfeld averaged 12.1 points per game for the Defenders while converting 48.4 percent of his field goal attempts and he took in 3.9 rebounds per game.

“Marcus demonstrated throughout the season that he possesses the ability to be a dominate player.  He is very versatile on the offensive end of the floor as has proven he has the capacity to play both in the post and on the perimeter.  Marcus has the potential to be among the top players in the GPAC for the next two years.  His development will be critical to this young squad going forward,” said Dordt College basketball coach Ross Douma.

Brunsting averaged 7.9 points per game with a team high 4.5 rebounds per game. He converted 38.8 percent of his three-point shots and had a team high 64 assists this season.

“Chandler has made himself into a very good college basketball player as his effort and determination are noted.  He embodies what it means to be a student-athlete in that he works relentlessly to get the most out of his ability both on the court as well as in the classroom.  He part of a young nucleus that has the potential to be very solid in years to come,” said Douma.

The Defenders concluded a 12-19 campaign last week and advanced to quarterfinal round of the GPAC post-season tournament.
