Dordt Men’s Track And Field Finishes 2nd At Nationals

Yankton, South Dakota – The Dordt men’s track and field team earned its best ever finish at the NAIA National Indoor Track and Field Championships with a runner-up finish at the event held in Yankton, South Dakota.

Dordt totaled 47 points in the meet and finished 4.5 points behind Indiana Tech in the team title race.

Dordt’s Matthew Van Eps added to his resume with another national title in the 800 meters where he clipped off a 1:52.35. The individual title is the third of Van Eps’s career as he won the 2109 outdoor 800 meters and the 2020 indoor 800 title.

Van Eps ran the anchor on the 4×400 relay with Micah Brands, Payton Mauldin and Cole Zevenbergen that finished second in 3:18.55. Indiana Tech claimed the race wit a 3:17.73.

Earlier in the day Mauldin and Zevenbergen ran second and fifth in the 600 meters with Mauldin running 1:20.12 and Zevenbergen ran 1:21.19 respectively.

Jacob Vander Plaats ran fifth in the mile with a time of 4:18.56 and Grant Brouwer cleared 6-7.25 to also claim fifth place in the high jump.

The 4×800 started the day with a fourth place finish and was made up of Anthony Ghiorso, Jebadiah Merkle, Lance Van Zee and Van Eps and the distance medley team of Vander Plaats, Brouwer, Merkle and Eric Steiger claimed fifth. The 4×800 unit ran 7:45.20 and the distance medley relay team ran 10:12.41.
