Dordt On The Road To Take On #1 Morningside

Dordt College travels to Morningside on Saturday, November 3 in a 1:00 kickoff.

Morningside is 9-0 overall and 7-0 in the GPAC and is rated no. 1 in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll.

The Mustangs have scored at least 35 points in each of their games this season and have scored 49 or more in seven of its games.  On defense Morningside has allowed more than 21 points once and has shut out three opponents.

Morningside is outscoring teams 56-13 and outgain teams 605-209.  The Mustangs run for 195 yards per game and pass for 410.  Teams run for 90 yards against Steve Ryan’s team and pass for 119.

Trent Solsma has completed 75 percent of his passes with 46 touchdowns and no interceptions.  He throws for 383 yards per game. Connor Niles has 93 catches for an 18.4 yards per catch average and he has scored 21 touchdowns. Bo Els has 46 catches for 12.7 yards per catch and eight touchdowns and Reid Jurgensmeier has 28 catches for a 15.3 yards per catch average.  Addison Ross and Jared Myers each have 22 and 16 catches respectively.

Arnijae Ponder has run for 918 yards with 5.0 yards per rush and has 12 touchdowns. Anthony Sims has 396 yards rushing and Ethan Stratman 347.

Jared Amundson is 69-69 on point after tries and he is 4-4 on field goals with a long of 34. Spencer Wyant has punted 24 times and averages 44.3 yards per punt.

Jacob Katzer and Joel Katzer have 68 and 62 tackles each and both have ten tackles for loss. Jacob Katzer has a team high 4.5 sacks while Joel Katzer has two interceptions. Klayton Nordeen has 54 tackles and Chase Nelson has 44 tackles and four sacks. Xavier Spann has a team high five interceptions and Deion Clayborne has three interceptions.

The Defenders are 6-2 this season after a 36-30 overtime win over Briar Cliff last weekend. The Defenders are 5-2 in the GPAC and are tied with Midland for third and are two games in front of Briar Cliff and Doane in the standings. Dordt’s losses this year are to Doane (24-21) on September 15 and Northwestern (40-28) on October 6.

Dordt has outscored teams 338-211 through eight games and have outscored teams on average 42-25.  The Defenders are averaging 445 yards of offense with 398 allowed.  Dordt gets 260 on the ground and 184 in the air.

Keithen Drury has 151 rushes for 732 yards and eight touchdowns.  Levi Schoonhoven has 71 rushes for 534 yards and six touchdowns. Brock Lamle has 273 yards rushing and has 83 pass completions with 19 touchdowns.

Levi Jungling has 42 receptions for 19.3 yards per catch and six touchdowns. Jake Dodge has 17 receptions for 11.4 yards per catch with four touchdowns. Matthew Oh-Slack has nine catches for 22.7 per reception and three touchdowns.

Casey Byker has punted 30 times for a 35.9 average and Brett Gaines is 9-10 on field goals with a long of 39. Gaines is also 39-41 on point after tries.

Byker has five interceptions and three touchdowns scored on defense with 62 total tackles. Nathan Kabongo has two interceptions and Tyson Dahlgrin has two fumble recoveries and four blocked point after tries with 4.5 quarterback sacks. David Kacmarynski has four sacks and nine tackles for loss. Jordan Weiland has three sacks and Josh Mrazek has 13 tackles for loss. Julius Buchanan also has three sacks for a team that has a school record 22 sacks this season.

Both of these teams are on the road next week.  Dordt will travel to Midland to complete the season and Morningside goes to Jamestown.
