Dordt Volleyball’s Granstra Earns National Honor

Dordt_Defenders logoSioux Center Iowa — Dordt College’s Brooke Granstra a senior from Sioux Center was one of three players who have been named NAIA National Volleyball Players of the Week. Granstra was the NAIA’s Attacker of the Week while Andrea Kappelman of Friends Kansas is the National Defender of the Week with Maddie Squiers of Bellevue Nebraska named the National Setter of the Week. The three were selected based on their performances from October 17th through the 23rd and were chosen out of a pool of conference player of the week selections.

Granstra a Western Christian alum had 41 kills for the week while hitting .354 and averaged 4.5 kills per set. She averaged nearly five kills per set in a win over third-ranked Midland and was instrumental in the tenth-ranked Defenders’ rally from a 0-2 deficit to defeat Briar Cliff on the road on Tuesday. Granstra is averaging 4.11 kills per set this season and her blocks per set average is hovering around one per set.

She tallied 20 digs and was in on ten blocks as Dordt went 2-0 in GPAC play and improved to 17-5 overall and 11-2 in the GPAC. Granstra currently ranks 16th in the NAIA in kill efficiency at .343 and kills per set with 4.1. This is the first time Granstra has earned the national weekly honor and she is the first player in Dordt’s history to record at least 1,000 kills and 1,000 assists since the rally scoring format was implemented in 2001.
