Dordt Women’s Soccer Coach Elgersma To Step Down After 2019 Season

Sioux Center, Iowa — Dordt University has announced women’s soccer coach Dr. Bill Elgersma has resigned his position effective at the conclusion of the 2019 season.

“I can’t say enough about the work Bill has carried out and the servant’s heart he has for his student-athletes and Dordt University. You cannot think of Dordt soccer without recognizing the key role Bill has played in shaping the program. We wish him nothing but the best as he steps away from coaching,” said Dordt University Athletic Director Ross Douma.

This is Elgersma’s 12th year coaching the women’s program and he also coached the men’s program for nine seasons. He has a combined coaching record of 215-153-21. His first year serving as head coach at Dordt was 1993 when he began a seven-year stint with the men’s program. 65 athletes have earned NAIA Scholar-Athlete honors while being coached by Elgersma and he has named the GPAC Women’s Soccer Coach of the Year in both 2002 and 2005. He was also named MCAC Men’s Soccer Coach of the Year in his initial stint handling the program from 1993-1999.

This year’s Defender team is 6-3-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the GPAC.

Elgersma has also served as an assistant men’s soccer coach and head hockey coach at Dordt where he also teaches in the English and education departments.

The search for a women’s soccer head coach will begin immediately.
