BHRV vs Southeast Valley Playoff Preview

Northwest Iowa — For a second week Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley will be at home as the Iowa football playoffs reach the quarterfinal round. The #2 Nighthawks take a 9-1 record into the quarterfinals against #8 Southeast Valley who comes in at 8-2. The game will be played at A.R. Hesla Field in Hull. Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley opened the playoffs with 35-7 win over Spirit Lake while the Jaguars posted a 58-42 win  against OA-BC-IG in a shootout at Gowrie last Friday.

Quarterback JT Van’t Hul leads the Nighthawks with 2,449 yards of total offense including 1,739 yards passing and another 710 yards rushing. He’s also accounted for 30 touchdowns on the season, rushing for 11 touchdowns while passing for 19. Cody Post is his leading receiver with 7 touchdowns on the season. Post is averaging 26.2 yards per catch.

On defense Brayton Van Kekerix leads the team in tackles with 66.5. That includes 30 solos and 14 solos for a loss. As a team, 7 players have combined for 10 interceptions.

For Southeast Valley the running game keys the offense. Kyler Fisher has rushed for 1,980 yards and 31 touchdowns on the season the longest being 86 yards. He’s averaging 8 yards per carry. With 177 yards receiving, he’s gone over 2000 yards in total offense. Last week against OABCIG, the 5′ 11″ 197 lbs senior ran for over 300 yards and 7 scores.

Fisher is a big part of the defense as well with a team high 58.5 tackles including 41 solos. 8 players have combined to pick off 10 passes to match the Nighthawk defense in that category.

That dominating ground game opens things up for the passing game.

With a number of players going both ways for Southeast Valley tempo will be important this week for the Nighthawks.

Swieter feels the Nighthawks are as complete a team as there is in all of Class 2A.

The key to getting to the Dome for Southeast Valley is ball control.
