Friday is Iowa Football Media Day With Comments From Zach Lutmer

Friday is Media Day for a largely untested Iowa football team that lost 16 starters from a team that finished 9-4. A total of 49 players on the roster are in their first or second year.

That’s senior tight end Addison Ostrenga (oh-strain-guh), who missed nearly all of last season with an Achilles injury. He is part of what might be the Hawkeyes most talented position group.

The competition at quarterback continues during fall camp. Jeremy Hecklinski and Hank Brown are battling to become the starter.

Only three starters return on defense. Senior linebacker Jayden Montgomery says despite the lack of experience the standard remains.

Montgomery says several new faces will need to step up this season.

Montgomery says while the defense will be young, there is a lot of talent.

Defensive back Zach Lutmer is the most experienced member if the defense. He begins his fourth year in the program.

As a member of the defense, Lutmer has had an up close look at the quarterback race.

Lutmer says he is looking forward to the season opener in Kinnick Stadium on September fifth against Northern Illinois.
