A fourth quarter Sheldon rally came up short last night at the Orina and the 6th ranked Generals left town with a 65-55 win. In the boys’ game the Orabs led at all the breaks but had to hold off Sibley Ocheyedan for the 50-42 win.
In the opener the Generals, ranked #6 in Class 2A opened with a 16-6 first quarter lead and were up 31-13 at the half. At the end of the third the lead was 49-27. Sheldon found their offense in the final 8 minutes but Sibley Ocheyedan claimed the win 65-55.
Marissa Ackerman and Madison Brouwer shared game high honors with 20 points each. Sheldon had three in double figures led by 16 points each from Maliah Kleinhesselink, 15 from Claire Johnson and 10 from Emma Barwick.
With the win Sibley Ocheyedan is 11-3 on the year and 9-2 in the conference. Sheldon is 8-8 with a 5-7 Siouxland record.
In the boys game it was tied at 7-7 after a low scoring first quarter. At the half Sheldon had taken a 21-13 lead. At the end of three the Generals had cut the lead to 32-30. In the fourth quarter Sheldon would go 10 of 16 at the line to nail down the 50-42 win.
Sheldon got a game high 16 from Shane Brouwer and 10 each from Blake Radke and Ryan Vollink. Vollink was 8 of 10 at the line including 5 of 6 in the fourth quarter.
The Generals got balanced scoring with Vance Hayenga Johnson and Jonny Santana hitting for 9 points each. Logan Bruxvoort was next with 8 points.
With the win Sheldon improves to 5-10 for the year and 3-8 in the Siouxland. Sibley Ocheyedan stands at 3-10 for the season with a conference mark of 1-7.
Both teams return to action on Friday with the Orabs at George Little Rock while Sibley Ocheyedan will host Okoboji.
