Gramstad Earns GPAC Player Of The Week

(Sioux City, Iowa) – The Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) and Hauff Mid-America Sports are proud to announce the following football players-of-the-week for games played the week of October 23-29, 2023. Hauff Mid-America Sports is the presenting sponsor of the 2023-24 GPAC Players-of-the-Week and Players and Coaches-of-the-Year awards program.

Offense – Jalyn Gramstad, Quarterback (Northwestern College University)
Northwestern quarterback Jalyn Gramstad is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Offensive Player-of-the-Week. Gramstad, a junior from Lester, Iowa, did not let the snowy conditions bother him as he put up 380 total yards of offense on the day as top-ranked Northwestern topped No. 3 Morningside for the first time in the regular season since 2013. He threw for 234 yards and two touchdowns, while he tallied his fifth-career 100-yard rushing game with 146 yards on 21 rushes with one score. He improves to 19-0 as the starting quarterback for the Red Raiders.

Defense – Xavier Green, Linebacker (Midland University)
Linebacker Xavier Green of Midland University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Defensive Player-of-the-Week. Green, a senior, from Houston, Texas, had a big day for the Warriors’ defense as they beat Concordia 39-37 in two overtimes. He had 11 tackles, including 8 solo stops, and an interception. In his final season, Green is averaging a career-best 8.2 tackles per game which ranks among the top in the GPAC.

Special Teams – Tyson Denkert, Return Specialist/Running Back (Midland University)
Tyson Denkert of Midland University is this week’s GPAC/Hauff Mid-America Sports Special Teams Player-of-the-Week. Denkert, a sophomore from Kenesaw, Nebraska, had a 91-yard kickoff return for a touchdown as Midland defeated Concordia 39-37 in double overtime. The all-purpose running back and return specialist had four kickoff returns for 158 yards and one punt return for 41 yards on special teams while logging 31 rushes and a reception on offense. In addition to his 199 yards in returns, he added 215 rushing yards and 9 receiving yards for 418 all-purpose yards and two total touchdowns.
