Hoogeveen Signs With NWC Golf and Basketball

Mia Hoogeveen of Lester, has signed a letter of intent to continue her basketball and golf career at Northwestern College this fall.

Hoogeveen is a 5’5” multi-sports standout who played three years for the West Lyon High School basketball team. Hoogeveen averaged 14.4 points and totaled 65 rebounds and 34 assists in leading her team to the class 2A regional finals. She earned first team all-conference and was named both first team all-district and all-region.

“We are excited that Mia has chosen to continue her athletic career as a Red Raider,” commented Northwestern head women’s basketball coach Chris Yaw. “Mia had a very good high school career and was a leader on her team. She is a great young lady who is highly competitive and a hard worker. I am confident that Mia will be a great fit for our basketball team and the Northwestern campus community.”

Also a three-time letter winner in golf, Hoogeveen led her team to the regional finals as a senior. She was a second team all-state selection and earned both all-conference and all-district honors for the third consecutive year. Hoogeveen posted a scoring average of 42 for nine holes and 90 on 18. An outstanding student, Hoogeveen earned both academic all-state and all-conference honors. She is the daughter of Jeff and Missy.

“Mia had a very successful high school career,” said Northwestern head women’s golf coach Catherine Van Der Weide. “Mia is a competitor and it will be a joy to coach her over the next four years.”
