Iowa City, Iowa — Iowa quarterback Spencer Petras spent a good deal of time in the offseason studying a national championship quarterback.
Mac Jones led Alabama to a national title before getting taken by the New England Patriots in the first round of the NFL Draft.
Petras is hoping to improve his accuracy and says that is a strength of Jones.
Petras says one reason he studied Jones was Iowa has a similar philosophy on offense as Alabama.
Petras led Iowa to a 6-2 record in his first season as a starter. The Hawkeyes open next season at home on September fourth against Indiana.
