LeMars Hands Orabs Their First Loss

LeMars Iowa — The LeMars Bulldogs handed Sheldon their first loss of the year 45-20 in LeMars Friday night. The Bulldogs scored on their first three possessions to set the tone early.

On their First possession Tate Westhoff found Aisea Toki for a 17 yard score. The extra point was no good and the Bulldogs were up 6-0 with 8:41 left in the first quarter. Late in the first quarter it was Loki in the backfield scoring on a 23 yard run. A 2-point attempt was no good and the lead was 12-0.

A third score came after an interception at the Sheldon 32. Josh Williams scored on an 11 yard run. Ben Wadle added the point  after and LeMars was in front 19-0.

Sheldon got on the board with 1:57 in the half. Jeremy Wollmuth  went in from 8 yards out. The scored capped a 91 yard drive after the Orabs had gotten a defensive stop at their own 9 yard line. Brian Bernal’s extra point pulled Sheldon to within 19-7.

On the ensuing kick off Trevor Smith went 80 yards for the score. Wadle added the The  extra point and the Bulldogs were up   26-7.

Sheldon answered with an 82 yard drive as Brennan Radke hit Tyler Lode for a 26 yard score. The kick by Bernal was good and the lead was 26-14 LeMars at halftime.

In the second half a pair of LeMars touchdown put the Bulldogs in control. The first was a 52 yard run by Jacob Bixenman and the second came on a 4 yard shuttle pass to Josh Williams. The kick was blocked on the first touchdown and no good on the second. With 2:05 left in the third quarter LeMars was up 32-14.

Sheldon got on the board again with 8:41 left in the game as Jeremy Wollmuth broke loose on a 57 yard sprint to the  end zone. The 2-point attempt was no good and the Bulldogs lead was trimmed to 38-20. Josh Williams finished the scoring with a 13 yard run midway through the fourth quarter. The extra point made the final score 45-20.

With the win LeMars improves to 2-1 on the year and will return to action on Thursday with a trip to Sioux City North. Sheldon is also at 2-1 on the year and will be at Estherville Lincoln Central for their final non district game.
