Sheldon Iowa — Central Lyon George Little Rock spoiled the Sheldon Orabs homecoming with a 35-21 win. The Lions built a 35-0 lead before the Orabs battled back with the final three touchdowns of the game.
The first touchdown of the game was a 35 yard run by Mitch Van Beek with 6:10 to go in the first quarter. Carter Krull added the extra point and the lead was 7-0.
Riley Van Wyhe found Ryan Metzger for an 11 yard touchdown with 3:34 to go in the first quarter. Krull’s extra point made it 14-0.
Van Beek scored the first of two defensive touchdowns in the second quarter as he returned an interception 42 yards for a score. Krull’s extra point made it 21-0 with 5:13 left in the half.
with :25 seconds left in the half the Lions got on the board again with a Jaydon Baker 1 yard touchdown run. The extra point by Carter Krull made the half time score 28-0.
The first score of the second half belonged to Central Lyon George Little Rock. Mitch Van Beek returned a fumble recovery 40 yards for the score. The Krull extra point made it 35-0 with 2:27 left in the third quarter.
Sheldon finished the scoring as Jaden Kleinhesselink got the first score with a 12 yard touchdown run with 10:31 left in the fourth quarter. A blocked punt by the Orabs was recovered at the Lions 1 yard line. That was turned into points on a 1 yard Brady Prescott touchdown run. The final score was a 36 yard touchdown pass from Kleinhesselink to Brandon Winkel with 1:05 left to play. Parker Nissen converted all three of the extra point attempts and Sheldon had come back from a running clock situation to making the final score 35-21 in favor of Central Lyon George Little Rock.
A new school record for pass receptions was set by the Orabs. Junior Philip Cain caught a single-game school record 11 passes for 114 yards. Sheldon quarterback Jaden Kleinhesselink also a junior completed 20 of 32 for 243 yards on the night.
With the win the Lions are 4-1 on the year and 3-0 in the district. Sheldon falls to 3-2 on the year and 1-2 in the district. Sheldon travels to Estherville Lincoln Central next Friday while Central Lyon George Little Rock celebrates homecoming against Pocahontas Area.
