Morningside top Seed in GPAC Women’s Basketball Tourney

GPAC Logo(Sioux City, Iowa) – Morningside will be the number one seed when the 2016 Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) Women’s Postseason Basketball Tournament begins on Wednesday, February 24. The No. 2 ranked Mustangs went 20-2 in the GPAC and 28-2 for the season. As the number one seed the Mustangs have secured an automatic berth to the NAIA Women’s Division II National Tournament in Sioux City, Iowa, which runs March 9-15 at the Tyson Events Center. Mount Marty is the two seed, Dakota Wesleyan the three seed, and Briar Cliff will be the fourth seed. The top four seeds all host first round games Concordia is seeded fifth, Hastings is sixth, Northwestern is seeded seventh, and College of Saint Mary is the eighth seed. GPAC tiebreakers determined the 2/3 seed, 4/5 seed, and the 7/8 seed.

The semifinals are on Saturday, February 27, at the highest two remaining seeds. GPAC Championship Tuesday, sponsored by Rawlings, will be on Tuesday, March 1. The GPAC Postseason Tournament Champion garners an automatic berth to the NAIA National Basketball Tournament (the runner-up gains the berth if the regular season champion (top seed Morningside) wins the postseason).
