The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks topped the Sheldon Orabs in softball action Tuesday night in Boyden. BHRV took the Class 3A Region 1 quarterfinal 6-1.

The Orabs struck first when Hannah Van Meeteren doubled to the fence, and Nicole Meyer came in to score from first to take the 1-0 lead in the top of the 2nd. The Nighthawks responded with three runs of their own after Morgan Halbur doubled to left/center, scoring Brooke Zylstra and Joanne Luevano. Halbur later came into score on a Brianna Kleinwolterink infield single. After two innings of work, it was 3-1 in favor of BHRV. The Nighthawks added two more runs in the 3rd to extend their lead to 5-1. Another run came in the bottom of the 5th for Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley, who later came away with the 6-1 victory.
Kaitlyn Van Der Zwaag got the win for Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley. Van Der Zwaag went all 7 innings, gave up 1 earned run on 2 hits while walking 4, and struck out 9.
Nicole Johnson took the loss for the Orabs, who gave up 5 earned on 6 hits, while walking 3, and struck out 3.
Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 30-2 on the year and will play Sioux Center Friday in Boyden.
Sheldon’s season comes to a close a 9-14-1.
