Nighthawks Down Western In Season Opener

Hull, Iowa — Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley scored 42 unanswered points, and came away with the 49-14 win over Western Christian in the battle of the State Champions Friday night in Hull.

The Nighthawks’ took their first possession down the field and made it a quick 7-0 when JT Van’t Hul found Jaden Den Boer from 26 yards out. Western then responded with a lengthy drive and Ben Granstra pounded it in from 2 yards out to tie things up at 7-7.

After a BHRV turnover on downs, the Wolfpack capitalized with Carter Broek finding Travis Solsma deep for 58 yards and pay dirt. The Nighthawks countered with a 2 play drive in 24 seconds capped off by a Van’t Hul 24 yard TD run making it 14-14 after 1 quarter of work for both teams

The Nighthawks then took control. After a Western fumble, Cade Moser was on the receiving end of a 69 yard TD pass, and Den Boer again got into the endzone with a 41 yard TD reception. Heading into halftime it was 28-14 Nighthawks. The Nighthawks scored 3 more times in the 2nd half, and came away with the 49-14 victory.

BHRV improves to 1-0 on the year, and travels to Larchwood next Friday to take on West Lyon. Western Christian falls to 0-1 on the young season and plays host to Akron-Westfield next week Friday.
