Hull, Iowa – The Boyden-Hull/Rock Valley Nighthawks got the win opening night in a defensive battle in Hull at AR Hesla Field 20-10 over Western Christian.
After a scoreless opening frame, Western Christian got on the board first with a safety after a Caleb Kats fumble in the endzone that was recovered by BHRV to make it 2-0 with 10:46 left in the first half. The Nighthawks got on the board with a big 80-yard catch and run by Cole Huyser to make it 7-2 with 5:23 left in the half. Western fumbled the ensuing kick off and gave BHRV great field position. Facing a 4th and 7 on the Western 23, Kats found Landyn Van Kekerix in the endzone for the 23-yard score to make it 14-2.
Western got back on the board in the 3rd when Tyson Boer hit Wyatt Gulker on the broken coverage for the 45-yard score to bring the score to within 14-10 with 5:41 left in the 3rd.
BHRV created the needed separation early in the 4th when Kats punched in the 1 yard run to make it 20-10 and that would be your final
BHRV sacked Boer 8 times and picked him off once., and Western had 4 defensive takeaways with 3 INTS and a fumble recovery.
With the win Boydne-Hull/Rock Valley improves to 1-0 on the season and host West Lyon in Rock Valley next week. Western falls to 0-1 and face Sioux Center next Friday.
