Orange City, Iowa — As the Red Raiders near toward the first dual and tournaments of the year, Northwestern previews the 10 weight classes of the Red Raider wrestling program. Their eighth installment is on the 184 pound weight class.
What makes this weight even more highly anticipated is the addition of local freshman stand-out, Luke Jenness (Primghar, IA). Jenness was a hammer in high school and concluded his senior season with a 3rd place finish at the Iowa State Tournament. This young man from NW Iowa has a work ethic that mirrors Sikkink’s and having these two guys pushing each other is a coach’s dream. Together, they not only raise the bar for each other, but they raise the bar for the entire program. We are eager to see these two in action and anticipate having them both fighting for a chance to represent the Raiders in Wichita come March!
After a season that saw his win total more than double and he earned a fourth place finish at the GPAC Tournament, junior Bennett Sikkink (St. Charles, MN) adjusted handsomely to the jump in weight classes. He responded in the off-season by getting bigger and more focused, and we are excited to see what the 2019-2020 season has in store for this young man who never stops! In addition, Sikkink has proven to be a leader on the team, a great influence around campus and has embraced The Raider Way in all that he does.
The Raiders jump on the mat for the first time this weekend at the Yellowjacket Open in Rochester, Minnesota.
