NWC’s Roberts Pitches Gem in Game One Win

Kansas City, Missouri — Brady Roberts pitched a complete-game, five-hitter in leading the Northwestern baseball team to a 7-2 win in game one of a doubleheader against the University of Northwestern played today at the Creekside Baseball Complex in Kansas City, Mo. Northwestern lost its final game, 7-5, to the Eagles and conclude its spring break trip with a 5-5 record.

Roberts (1-1) walked two and struck out six and earned his first win of the season. The junior retired the Eagles hitters in order in two of the seven innings and gave up a single run in the second and seventh.

Northwestern totaled seven hits, led by Jaden Snyder who went 2/3 with a run scored and three RBI. Elijah Rash added two hits, including a triple, while Sutton Derr, Noa Vogel and Mason Porepp all had one hit.

Tied 1-1, the Raiders blew the game open with a six-run fifth inning, sending 12 batters to the plate. Snyder hit a three-run double and Rash added an RBI single in the inning.

University of Northwestern totaled five hits, two by both Carlton Lindow and Sam Peterson. Philip Wall (0-1) suffered the loss, giving up five hits and all seven runs in 4.1 innings.

Northwestern dropped game two 7-5 when the Eagles broke a 5-5 tie with a pair of unearned runs scored in the bottom of the fifth. Brett Shelton (2-1) took the loss for Head Coach Brian Wede’s squad, giving up five hits and seven runs, four earned, in 4.2 innings. He struck out five and walked two.

The Raiders outhit the Eagles 7-6, led by the duo of Colton Harold and Kip Cullinan with two hits each. Vogel added an RBI double in the top of the first, giving his team a 2-0 lead.

Unversity of Northwestern came back with four runs in the bottom of the first and led 5-2 until the Raiders scored a run in the fourth on a leadoff triple by Harold and RBI groundout from Michael Zeigler. Northwesten tied the game at five in the top of the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Vogel and single from Harold.

Aaron Severson (1-0) earned the win for the Eagles, pitching the final 2.1 innings.
