NWC’s Schany Earns GPAC Honor

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – After a successful 3-0 Thanksgiving week for the No. 17-ranked Northwestern College women’s basketball team the success continued as sophomore forward Molly Schany (Emmetsburg, Iowa/Emmetsburg) was awarded the Hauff Mid-America Sports/GPAC Player-of-the-Week honor for week two.

Schany accumulated 62 points over the three games the Raiders played during the week of Nov. 22-28. She shot an impressive 71.4% from the field and earned a double-double against Westcliff (Calif.) with 11 rebounds and a new career high of 28 points. In the lone Great Plains Athletic Conference (GPAC) game of the week against Midland (Neb.) Schany tallied 18 points and six rebounds.

For the season, Schany is leading the 9-0 Raider women’s squad in points per game with 16 and rebounds per game (6.6). Schany also is ranked fourth in the NAIA in field goal percentage at 67.4%.

The Raiders will return to GPAC action tomorrow night, Dec. 1, at 6:00 p.m. to take on the (RV) Chargers of Briar Cliff University.
