Sheldon Iowa — Pinch runner Brendan Cain scored the winning run in the bottom of the 6th inning. The Orabs held the Mustangs scoreless in the top of seven for a 4-3 win Monday night in Sheldon.
The Mustangs scored first in the top of the first inning as Lucas Nagel led off the game with a triple to the gap in right field. He would later score on an error for the games first run.
Sheldon went up 2-1 with a pair of runs in the home half of the first as Brennan Radke led off with an infield single and moved to second before scoring on a single to left by Marshall Kleinhesselink with Marshall taking second on the throw home. Kleinhesselink scored on an error to put the Orabs up 2-1.
George Little Rock tied it at 2-2 with a run in the top of the second. Cole Riemersma reached on an error and later scored on another error by the Orabs.
Sheldon went up 3-2 in the bottom of the third when Radke walked and moved to second on Tyler Lode’s sacrifice bunt. He moved to third on a pass ball scored on an error.
The Mustangs tied it in the top of the 6th as Johnny Schmidt singled and later scored on a Sheldon error to make it 3-3 going into the home half of the 6th inning.
Sheldon scored the game winner in the bottom of the 6th as Brett Kristof reached on an error and pinch runner Brendan Cain scored on an rbi single to the left side of the infield by Kordel Koiker.
Luke Van Beek went 7 innings for the win. He gave up 2 hits while striking out 8 and walked just 1 batter.
Caleb De Kam took the loss going the first 4 and two thirds. He Gave up 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking 3. Johnny Schmidt finished up giving up 1 run on 1 hit . He struck out 1 and did not walk a batter.
With the win Sheldon is 3-9 on the year and 3-6 in the conference. The Mustangs are 3-8 for the year and 2-7 in the Siouxland.
Sheldon travels to Cherokee on Tuesday with the softball team making the trip as well. The Mustangs are off until Wednesday when they host Boyden Hull Rock Valley.
