Sheldon Iowa — Jaden Kleinhesselink threw for five touchdowns and ran for another. Brady Prescott had 26 carries for 167 yards as the two seniors led Sheldon to a 47-13 homecoming win over Estherville Lincoln Central.
Sheldon opened the scoring on their first possession going 84 yards on the drive. Kleinhesselink hit Phil Cain for the first of four touchdowns between the two from 11 yards out. The kick by Brian Bernal was good and Sheldon led 7-0 with 8:08 to play in the first quarter.
A 93 yard drive was capped by a 20 yard connection from Kleinhesselink to Cain. The kick was blocked and the Orabs were up 13-0 with 11:55 left in the second quarter.
The Midgets got on the board when Even Olesen found Bennett Loock for a 5 yard touchdown to complete a 72 yard drive. The kick was blocked and the Orab lead was cut to 13-6 with 7:49 to go in the half.
Sheldon scored a pair of touchdown to take a 27-6 lead. The first was a 35 yard pass play from Kleinhesselink to Cain followed by a 91 yard strike from Kleinhesselink to Cain. The second score followed a defensive stop by the Orabs at their own 7 yard line. With 3:42 left in the half Sheldon led 27-6.
The Midgets picked off a pass and returned it to the Sheldon 42. With :23 seconds left Olesen hit Briar Rowley for a 42 yard score get the Midgets within 27-13 at the half.
Sheldon scored three more times in the second half. The first came after the defense held on downs at the Orab 17 yard line. The offense went 83 yards the other way. Kleinhesselink tossed his fifth touchdown of the night when he hooked up with Tyler Lode for a 24 yard score. The extra point made it 34-13 Sheldon with 5:09 left in the third quarter.
A Brady Prescott punt return to the Midget 29 yard line set up a 3 yard touchdown run by Jaden Kleinhesselink and the lead was up to 41-13 with 1:50 to play in the third quarter.
Sheldon rounded out the scoring with 10:13 left to play. Jason Stegeman intercepted a pass and returned it to the Estherville Lincoln Central 35 yard line. Jason Barwick finished the drive with a 1 yard touchdown run. The kick was no good and Sheldon had the win 47-13.
With the win Sheldon is 5-1 on the season and 3-1 in the district. Estherville Lincoln Central falls to 1-5 for the season and 0-4 in the district. Next Friday Sheldon travels to Sioux Center to take on an unbeaten Warriors squad. The Midgets will be at home against Pocahontas Area Laurens Marathon.
